We're finally back from what turned out to be the most relaxing vacation I've taken. This is the ginormous Liberty of the Seas. I was afraid of cruises, but let me tell you, it was really nice to be somewhere so removed from our normal lives. There were lots of activities to choose from, or we could sit and relax. There was food anytime we wanted it. (We all gained a little weight, even Gretchen.) No worrying about the messes Gretchen made or all of the things to be done in normal life. No cell phones or computers. It was so wonderful!
The reason for the 7-day Caribbean cruise was all these guys turning 40 this year. They all went to high school together.
A relaxing moment on the beach. I'm reading A Three Dog Life by Abigail Thomas. Love it. Very touching story so far.
On our way to New York. I love these moments.
Then we spent a few days with Don's family. Don taught his nieces and nephews how to make his scones.
It was a lovely vacation, but we're glad to be home. The restaurant is open again, and everyone is re-energized for what will hopefully be a great second year for Toast.
In Gretchen-land, she finally got determined to eat more solids on our trip. She's now a fan of cheerios, pretzels and crackers. She eats her pureed food with more gusto, and accepts a greater variety of mush. It's been fun! She seems to have doubled her usual monthly weight gain this month (2 lbs rather than 1), so this solid food is doing her good!
She's pulling herself up to stand on taller furniture items, and supposedly did a solo stand without anything to hold on to, though I didn't see it. She's very cautious when she stands (which is fine by me!), so she's doesn't try to scootch around much, but she's slowly testing those waters.

I want to give that girl squeezes!!
I'm so jealous of your trip...especially when you mentioned no phones or computers. Some day I will convince my husband that we can survive....he used to believe it, but now we're so chained to our technology (she types on her laptop-less than an hour after returning home from her own short vacation).
