Wide awake

Last night I was awake from 1-3 am. That's not horribly unusual, but last night I was especially wide awake. So I took my current read, Housekeeping, by Marilynne Robinson, into the living room and spent a couple hours with Franklin sleeping at my feet. It was very sweet. He's usually such an independent kitty, but sometimes at night he likes to snuggle up. Which is fine as long as he keeps his claws to himself--he has a hard time with this and doesn't seem to understand why he can be banished from laps for digging into flesh.

By the way, I kept wanting to read Housekeeping for book club and the other women said that her other book Gilead was too boring so they wouldn't read Housekeeping. Well, I would say Housekeeping so far has been very enjoyable and would have been a great book club book.

In upcoming baby news, we're still 7 days from the due date, not that that means much except we're trying to be ready every day. I guess I should finish packing my hospital bags. I was hoping my appointment yesterday would tell us something, but all I learned is that I'm still pregnant.

Here's a slightly embarassing shot from a baby shower a couple weeks ago in which they did the ring test. We learned that it would be a boy--of course it is a very scientific and accurate test. The women who did it have had a 100% success rate, but that's only with three other pregnancies, so not a large sample. A woman at the college cafeteria has told me it's a girl only because everyone else at the college has apparently had boys this year. Again, not so scientific, but one of those guesses has to be right.

Toast is chugging away these days. The weekends are nice and busy, and the weekdays are sure to get there too. I believe there will be some press coming up soon, so that should help out quite a bit.

Boy is what I've been thinking! Can't wait to find out for sure! Glad things are continuing to go well at Toast. If some press comes out, see if you can manage a link.

I'm going to go with one of those guesses, just to be on the safe side! You look great!
Ain't science great? Well... whether it's a girl or a boy, our little household is getting jumpy with excitement for you. Every time the phone rings, I'm expecting an, "IT'S A...!" on the other end. And the other day, the boys saw a stork overhead and asked me if it was bringing your baby to their house!

Whoa, Elly-Belly!
But not grouch! This entry is quite a funny read. It's good to know your sense of humor is intact so close to the big day!
