The unfinished

Sheldon looked like such a easy pattern. And it all started out so well. Actually, I'm almost finished, but it's taken me about 6 weeks to get this far. Two eyes and four legs and we're good to go. And yet...here he is unfinished. I had him perched on top of the back of the couch the other night after I finished connecting his shell top and bottom, and in the morning some frisky animal had thrown him down on the floor. Most likely it was the cat, because there was no damage*. Anyway, maybe that was a sign. Just trash it. You'll never finish him. For some reason four little legs seem like a lot to finish. And this is after much increasing and decreasing, a connecting I-cord (my first), and the strange shell pattern. Four legs, why is that intimidating? I would love to blame application season, but I think it's just the finishing. It took me a year to finish Don's slippers, a year to finish a hat, my first attempt at a sweater has never been finished (I started that in '97 or '98). Not that I haven't finished many projects in a timely manner, but some things take much longer than necessary. Must overcome the unfinished projects. If I can overcome this unfinished project maybe I can finish a few for the small children I know before they are teenagers. We'll see.

*Barb and Larry were kind enough to bring some of Gwen's old toys with them in December as gifts for our dogs. Gwen had been so kind and gentle with her toys. Aside from some matting of fur there was barely a mark on any of them. Our dogs tore the stuffed animals apart in a matter of minutes. Katie was especially brutal with the gorilla. Katie tore out the eyes one at a time. Then she tore off the pleather face. Then she pulled the stuffing out bit by bit until there was only the shell of the now eyeless, faceless gorilla left crumpled on the floor. It was frightening to watch. I hope she wasn't trying to send us any messages.

Sheldon is very sweet. Legless, but sweet! I'm glad he survived the apparant attack.

I think Sheldon looks hard, if it makes you feel any better! I was too daunted to try him, actually!

Ordinarily I check your website every day or two, hoping for a new post. Then, as soon as I look the other way, something appears and sits there for days before I even know of it! However, it is always fun to read your site, even if a bit belatedly, and of course to have one's own 15 minutes of fame by being pictured/spoken of on it! As for unfinished needlework projects, they may be hereditary, to judge by the unfinished quilt tops and embroidery in my own closet. Don't work TOO hard, sweety--OK?
Oh, my! I just guffawed outloud twice while reading this entry. Sheldon is already so cute - he deserves to be finished, no matter how long it takes. And... uhm... I added a number of rows (of the wonderful yarn you gave me) to the scarf (that you began with me Xmas 2005) last Jan & Feb... and here we are, 12 months later... HELP!

Yes, finish him! You must! I know a little girl who would love a turtle like Sheldon.
