Okay, apparently I was in a deep dark cave for a while, or something. Anyway, I believe this is where I left off...
Sunday my parents and I headed back for Chicago, stoppi
ng to visit Bernie and John on the way. Bernie is the widow of Dad's bookbinding mentor. Her daughter Lisa joined us for a lovely lunch.
We stayed downtown right off of Michigan Ave. The parents had recently been sightseeing with their French teenager house guests over the summer, so they knew all the great places to go. We walked around a bit and went to a great old hotel, the Intercontinental Hotel, for drinks and a snack.
Monday we went to see King Tut at the Field Museum, and then walked up to the Art Institute for a great lunch.
(Sorry Jenny, I like having only photos of others on my blog. I wish I had more photos of Mom and Dad around Chicago, they're too cute!)

Anyway, since Chicago not much has gone on around here. I saw some movies. I know, exciting! Death of a President was especially interesting and thought provoking. Even if Hillary Clinton doesn't want you to see it, I think both democrats and republicans can appreciate the message of the movie. I really want to see 49 Up (also on the sign), but first want to see the rest of the Up series. I hear it's also very interesting. The wait list at the library is unbelievable! See mom, I'm trying to use the library! If only I could remember my password. I did use the library to drop off my ballot. That's something, right?
Okay, so I also ate a lot since last I wrote. We met Matt and Lisa for a farewell brunch at a place on Hawthorn that has vegan fare. Very good. Can't believe we only saw them once while they were in the area. Can't believe I never got a photo of them in Oregon. They still say they're coming back though, so we
hope to see much more of them. Last weekend Don made this fabulous chilled shrimp salad as an appetizer, and then we had to wait a couple hours to eat the rest of the meal, it was so filling.
While he did that I made an easy yeast-no-knead-whole-wheat-and-molasses bread from Beard on Bread. It is so amazingly filling. Good, but not something you would eat every day. I wonder if it would work with 1/2 white flour. At least as a stepping stone. Perhaps next time. Last night I made a
polenta dish from Real Simple that is one of their suggested vegetarian alternatives to Thanksgiving. I used manchego and
havarti instead of the gorgonzola, because Don can't eat blue cheeses. I think it would be better with gorgonzola myself.
The Brownies did their first volunteer project as a troop. We wrapped boxes for Christmas presents for children around the world. The church we meet in asked us to help with the project in return for no rent on the room.
Hopefully it won't take me so long to add a post next time...

This is a great entry, by the way - worth the wait!
We're hoping to see Matt and Lisa tomorrow!!
Also- I think you need to practice the art of self-photo taking!
Don't forget to read the sequels, I really love Mc Murtry's books, when he describes the (weather) elements you can almost feel them.
For some kind of fun quick reads try Sandra Dallas, her "Buster Midnights Cafe" is a real hoot!
Also by her "The Persian Pickle Club" is good too
