Tomato Man

Today Becca, Kristin and I canned tomatoes. We went out to Sauvie Island and bought 35 pounds of roma tomatoes and used some tomatoes from Kristin's garden. The Kotler tomato crop was not good this year. We recently found out that the pine trees in our yard are to blame for soaking up all of the water and leaving the garden with none. Next year we'll probably put in a drip system to properly hydrate the garden.
During our lunch break Tomato Man was born, complete with rosemary arms and a green bean nose. The fun 3 gals will have when canning.

Here is Kristin looking over the tomatoes lovingly, and Becca doing some research. We ended up with 24 quarts of tomatoes. Now I want to can everything. Oh the possibilities. Peaches sound good. Corn? Pickles, certainly (tomorrow in fact, with Andy and Patty). Or maybe just more tomatoes, because I don't think 8 quarts is going to last very long. I only wish I had taken my knitting along today, as I could have gotten a lot done while we were processing the tomatoes. Next time...

Yeah! Lovely photos. & many thanks for furthuring a similar recent buzzing in my bonnet!

(We did pickles and started herbed & spiced vinegars and oils this summer, but REAL canning was only awaiting your soft push...!)

What about pesto? Would that officially be canning? I'm imagining a possible future holiday gift coming my way. Mmmm.....
Love that you've got friends with such similar interests out there! I feel it's harder for me to find them here. Though, I do have a few gems.
