Recently, I've been on some sort of a domestic kick. It probably makes Don laugh, because he witnesses first hand how not domestic I am on any given day.
I had so much fun canning tomatoes with Kristin and Becca that I invited Anne over two Saturdays ago so we could do another batch. Evie entertained us with her standing, walking and talking while we worked. She points and says do-oh (or something close to that) a lot in very serious tones. It seems to mean a lot of things. Before Anne and Evie got to the house I threw together a batch of Char's famous dill crock. We had just learned that the pickle batch from the week before did not turn out well, so I'm hoping that's not a bad sign for the dill crock. Here's the dill crock hiding in the corner.

We woke up Sunday two cans of tomatoes that didn't seal, so Don and I quickly put those to use. First up was breakfast with poached eggs over toast served with an Italian breakfast sauce. This is my favorite breakfast.

While Don was making breakfast I was getting my mom's stew recipe to make for supper. I changed it just a little, but it's basically the same as what we grew up with.

It was a little thinner than I was hoping for, so instead of trying to cook the biscuits on top of the stew I made them on the side. I happened to stop by Anne's house that afternoon to drop off the tomatoes, and she was also making stew for supper. I wonder what Jenny was making?

& hmmm...
1) that might very well have been the night that I made pumpkin soup & herbed biscuits, and
2) in any case, I have often thought of Mom's stew, and never got the recipe, so... whenever you got the time, I got the pan & the ladle ready, and
3) I know something of what you mean about recent domestic kicks. Something's in the air... or on the stove...!
